The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance and repair of golf course equipment including trucks, tractors, all types of mowers, garden-type equipment, and all other specialized equipment used in turf grass management. A higher grade worker or supervisor assigns maintenance or repair work. The incumbent locates worn or poorly adjusted parts through visual and auditory checks. The incumbent decides on the tools and techniques to use in order to carry out assignments in a timely fashion and with minimal supervision. Orders replacement parts as necessary. Makes adjustments and settings in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and then tests equipment for satisfactory repair. A higher grade worker provides assistance when standard procedures fail to correct problems or when the automotive worker is assigned more complex repairs involving major assemblies or advanced systems.

1. Performs repair work on golf course equipment. This involves cleaning, adjusting, or replacing defective parts or components including engine components, mufflers, condensers, engine gaskets, various belts and hoses, hydraulic pumps, hoses, and fittings, and complete assemblies such as reel units on mowers.

 2. Performs routine maintenance work. This includes oil changes, lubrication, filter changes, radiator flushes, engine, brake, and steering adjustments, sparkplug replacement, and tire repair.

3. Performs grinding and back lapping of mower reels and blades.

 4. May drive government vehicle in performance of official duties.

5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALITICATIONS: Must have a knowledge of various techniques for routine maintenance and repair of golf course turf equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, and specialized equipment. Must be skilled in using basic tools common to the occupation and be able to work effectively in various conditions both indoor and outdoor. Successful completion of a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) is required. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner and provide a copy of his/her driving record.
